Cambridge
has captivated countless visitors with its great beauty;
magnificent courtyards, the bridges and 'Backs' along the
River Cam and the great wealth of architectural styles are
all part of the city's splendour.
Cambridge dates back to Neolithic times and has been settled
by Romans, Saxons and Normans. However, the real growth
of the city began some 900 years ago as a prospering trading
route between eastern and central England and then a teaching
centre for scholars from neighbouring monasteries. By the
13th century, the University came into being. |
